Think of the immune system as a symphony orchestra. Like an orchestra, the immune system has different sections consisting of cellular and chemical components. These sections work in harmony to rid the body of entities harmful to your health.

Just as the orchestra contains individual instruments with different functions, so too does the immune system. The chemical section, for example, has nine known types of antibodies with unique structures and functions. The antibodies circulate through the blood and body fluids seeking out foreign invaders, attacking them directly or marking them for later attack by immune cells. The cellular section is composed of a variety of unique immune cells that find and destroy foreign invaders.
